What is PEMF?

Devon Poeta 20230626-43_edited.jpg

PEMF stands for Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field, which is a non-invasive and painless healing therapy that re-energizes depleted or injured cells in the body.  You can think of it as a whole body battery charger.

In the 1960’s, NASA astronauts would return from space very sick, lacking energy and strength.  After years of research, NASA determined that the problem was a lack of exposure to the Earth’s magnetic field, confirming its importance in cellular function.  NASA also found that pulsed electromagnetic fields could improve cell viability and enhance their function.  MagnaWave PEMF is based on the Earth’s magnetic field and uses natural frequencies that you encounter every day.

Our bodies are inherently electrical.  All cells conduct electrical currents to send signals to other cells in order for the body to function properly. Electrical signals make it possible for us to move, think, and feel.  As cells age or are stressed due to illness or environmental pollution, their energy and electrical charge is depleted.  Cells with low energy and charge become dysfunctional and unable to perform their jobs, leading to inflammation, illness, early aging, and degenerative disease.

People and animals of all ages can benefit from PEMF.  It restores cellular health, which allows them to function more efficiently and thereby enhances the body's ability to heal itself naturally.  Whether you are suffering from chronic ailments in need of pain relief, or a competitive athlete looking to improve your performance, MagnaWave PEMF can help!

How does it work?

MagnaWave PEMF uses pulsating magnetic fields to jump start injured and run down cells. Large copper coils deliver magnetic energy up to 16 inches into the body, penetrating skin, muscle, tendon, and bone.  PEMF makes cell membranes more permeable, allowing the uptake of more nutrients and oxygen, as well as increased elimination of toxins. This re-balances the cells and allows them to work more efficiently.  Magnetic energy also stimulates the production of Nitric Oxide (NO), which is used by cells to make more ATP (cell fuel) to restore cellular health and normal function.

PEMF has an important effect on blood cells as well.  When you are sick or tissue is inflamed, blood cells tend to clump together (Rouleaux effect).  This leads to decreased circulation and less oxygen being delivered to your cells.  PEMF changes the charge of blood cells so that they repel each other, resulting in better blood flow and oxygenation of tissues and organs.

MagnaWave can detect sore muscles!

This is something very uniques to PEMF. Muscle twitching like this occurs when the magnetic field passes over an area where cells are damaged and have a low electrical charge (areas of soreness).  Notice as the loop moves just an inch to the side the twitching stops, indicating healthy cells with a normal electrical charge.

PEMF treatment stimulates circulation and oxygenation to the damaged cells, allowing them to heal faster.

What conditions can it treat?

Over the years, PEMF has been used to help treat countless conditions.  Please note PEMF does not cure diseases, it is an energy medicine device. It optimizes cellular function so that your body can heal itself naturally, thereby providing relief for many symptoms.

Is PEMF safe?

Yes!  PEMF has been used in Europe and Asia for hundreds of years.  In the US, PEMF been studied for over 40 years and 3000+ research studies and clinical trials have proven PEMF to be extremely safe.  In fact, none of these studies reported any negative effects!

PEMF has been FDA approved to treat multiple conditions including:

1979 – Non-union fractures
1998 – Urinary incontinence and muscle stimulation
2004 – Cervical fusion
2006 – Depression and anxiety
2011 – Brain Cancer

MagnaWave PEMF Machines

MagnaWave was founded in 2002 and their machines have been tested in hundreds of clinical trials.  They are currently being tested for FDA approval.  MagnaWave PEMF machines are very high powered and use a sawtooth waveform which has been proven to increase cellular benefits.  While all PEMF machines are beneficial, MagnaWave PEMF penetrates 16 inches into tissue and bone, while low power machines only treat superficially.  In addition, low power machines often take hours to provide systemic benefits, while MagnaWave can accomplish this within minutes!

MagnaWave PEMF can and should be combined with other therapies to achieve optimum health!  Complementary therapies include:                                     , red light therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic work, massage, physical therapy, heat therapy, and ceramic therapy.

  • What does a PEMF treatment feel like?
A mild pulsing is felt in the area being treated. The intensity can be adjusted for individual comfort. At higher intensities, slight muscle contractions may occur, but it is never painful!
  • Are there any side effects?
While PEMF increases blood circulation and oxygen to cells throughout the body, it will also increase the removal of cellular waste/toxins. You may initially experience a detoxification effect (temporary headaches, muscle aches, nausea, and fatigue). These side effects will go away as your body becomes used to the PEMF. Drinking plenty of water before and after a PEMF treatment is encouraged.
  • Are there any contraindications?
It is not advised to use PEMF on pregnant patients, or patients with implanted electrical devices.
  • How long will it take to see benefits?
Some patients will experience pain relief and relaxation from their first session. Acute conditions are typically resolved faster than chronic conditions. After all, chronic conditions developed over a long time, therefore it will take more sessions to reverse them. A routine treatment plan is recommeded to maintain the benefits provided by PEMF.
  • Can my horse be ridden right after a treatment?
Yes! In fact, PEMF can be used before and after a ride. Treating with PEMF before exercise increases blood flow and circulation, preparing the muscles to be worked and preventing injury. Treating after exercising reduces pain and stiffness and accelerates recovery time.
  • How many treatments are recommended?
While this will largely depend on the condition being treated, it is suggested that a "loading dose" of PEMF is done initially (ex. 2-3x/week for 2 weeks). This is because the effects of PEMF are cumulative, so once the effects are sustained for longer periods of time the treatments can be decreased to a maintenance schedule.
  • What is the difference between PEMF and EMF?
PEMF's are therapeutic. They are pulsed long wavelength/low frequency magnetic fields that support the body's natural functions. EMF's (electromagnetic fields) are harmful. These magnetic fields have short wavelengths and high frequencies and are emitted by power lines, microwaves, cell phones, and X-rays.
  • How often can you treat with PEMF?
PEMF is safe to use every day. It is recommended to keep up a routine treatment schedule for optimum benefits.
  • What is the difference between PEMF and Cold Laser?
Both therapies are used to energize cells and improve their function, but they do so in different ways: • PEMF uses magnetic energy to stimulate cells while lasers use light energy (photons). • PEMF loops generate a wider focal area and can penetrate much deeper into the body. Lasers have a smaller focal area and have a maximum penetration depth of 5 inches. • PEMF is capable of detecting sore or injured areas: as the PEMF loops pass over a sore area, the muscles will contract and twitch. • With PEMF, you can easily treat the whole body in under 45 minutes. Because lasers have a small focal point, they are used to treat specific injury areas such as joints or wounds.
  • What is the difference between PEMF and Shockwave?
    • PEMF is non-invasive and painless, so sedation is not required. Animals quickly relax and enjoy their PEMF treatment. Sedation is recommended for shockwave as the high-impact waves can be painful. • PEMF can penetrate up to 16 inches into the body. Shockwave has a maximum penetration of about 4 inches. • While PEMF can be used to treat the whole body relatively quickly, shockwave can only be used on specific areas such as the back or legs.
